A very happy Diwali to one and all....I shall be celebrating by stuffing myself with Indian sweeties! (Jallebis being my favourite....)

And the same to you and yours, fishy, from one who will not be stuffing herself (mumble, mumble, snot fair, want some sweeties, want them now...).

Love trying new things so googled Jalebi because it said they are easy to make and sound delicious. Sadly I don't have maida flour, fine grained semolina (or rice flour), plain yogurt, saffron threads or green cardamom seeds powder, neither do I have kewra (or rose) water and although I know you can get Ghee locally, without the rest of the ingredients, I'm guessing that with just baking powder, warm water and sugar, the result would be less than authentic.

So no sweeties for us either, but ... happy Diwali anyway.

Thanks, Maabs.

As far as jallebis are concerned...I cook a mean curry but I draw the line at making Indian sweets. Far too fiddly. I buy them, and so do all my Indian pals. Jallebis are delicious spirals of syrup-soaked batter, crunchy on the outside and sweet and sticky within.....Yummy.
